　　复合句由一个主句和一个或一个以上的从句构成。主句是全句的主体，通常可以独立存在；从句由从属连词引导，从句则是一个句子成分，不能独立存在。从句须由一个关联词引导，关联词起到联系从句和主句的作用。

　　一、 从句的种类

　　从句包括（1）名词性从句（主语从句、宾语从句、表语从句和同位语从句）、（2）形容词性从句（定语从句）和（3）副词性从句（状语从句）共三大类从句。

　　二、从句的引导词

　　1、从属连词（引出主语从句、宾语从句、表语从句和状语从句等）

　　that（无意义）；whether（是否）；if（假如；是否）although/though（虽然；尽管）；because(因为）；when（当…时候）；before（在……前）；after（在……后）；since（既然；自从）；as（正如；尽管；一边；由于）；while（在……期间）as soon as（一……就……）；as long as（只要）；as if（好像）等。

　　2、连接代词（引出主语从句、表语从句和宾语从句）

　　who, whom, which, what, whose等

　　Who breaks the law should be punished. （what引导主语从句）

　　I really didn’t know whom he was waiting for. （whom引导宾语从句）

　　3、连接副词（引出宾语从句、表语从句和状语从句）

　　when, where, why, how

　　When they got there, the film had been on for ten minutes.

　　Do you know why he was late for work?

　　When the dentist at last removed the cotton wool from my mouth, I was able to tell him that he had pulled out the wrong tooth.

　　4、关系代词（引出定语从句）

　　who, whom, whose, which, that

　　The man that I served is wearing a hat.

　　He says he is the man who bought these books.

　　5、关系副词（引出定语从句）

　　when, where, why

　　Meanwhile, my tongue was busy searching out the hole where the tooth had been.
